Zachary King, Patient Services Associate, PACU
Please join the Center for Nursing Excellence in congratulating Zachary King – for being selected as the April BEE Award winner!
Zachary is a Patient Services Associate in the PACU area and was nominated by a co-worker. The following is the story of how Zachary impacted their life in a way that they will never forget.
Nomination: Zack King consistently goes above and beyond for UAMS’s patients. He is dependable, dedicated, and thoughtful in his job performance. Most recently, a patient from rural Arkansas was being discharged at 6pm. The patient’s support person presented with a small infant, a stroller, car seat, diaper bag, and all the paraphernalia of a new baby. She was completely overwhelmed with medical care, wayfinding, and the daunting task of driving home – along with caring for an infant. It was dark, and the “artic blast” made temperatures at 6pm well below freezing. After this person called the unit in distress and reported being lost/unable to find her car, Zack went out on foot. He found her, and with expert communication skills identified the car was not in parking deck one but was in parking deck three. He escorted her to deck three, helped locate the car, in the cold, because he truly cared. This woman later called the unit to express her gratitude. Another example that demonstrates Zack’s respect for others, is when he was waiting with a patient for their group home transportation van to arrive. This was a difficult situation, and what should have been a 15 min wait turned into over one hour. Zack demonstrated compassion. He listened and consoled the patient, and even purchased a meal from the lobby café because the patient was hungry. We are lucky to have Zack at UAMS!
Way to go Zachary!
Please congratulate Zachary for Being Exceptional Every day at UAMS!
