Student Jobs – Clinical Care Assistants (CCA)

CCA Job Expectations:

  1. If selected for hire, nursing student is to bring a copy of the nursing school transcript or grade report to validate current nursing school enrollment and completion of basic theory, skills checkoff and one hospital clinical rotation and sign the ‘CCA Statement of Eligibility’ during Week 1 of orientation.
  2. CCAs hired in June and December are required to attend one (1) week of orientation starting on a designated Monday for ‘New Employee Orientation’ (morning session) and ‘CCA Orientation’ (afternoon session) and continuing daily classes, 8A-4:30P thru Friday. If CCA is a *transfer, CCA must reapply and contact Nurserecruitment@uams.edu prior to transfer. CCAs must also complete all Human Resources ‘New Hire’ requirements prior to start date.
  3. CCAs hired off cycle must complete ‘New Employee Orientation’, modules and ID Badge before 1st working day on the unit. Clinical Services Manager (CSM) will approve up to 8 hours education (EDU) time to complete online modules.  A six-week period is allowed for CCA to complete orientation requirements including five (5) required classes and five (5) shifts to complete CCA clinical check-offs.   CCAs cannot perform any skill until classes/check-offs are complete or CSM will remove CCA from schedule/position.
  4. To foster professionalism, CCA’s are hired for a specific unit and required to work every other weekend to equal a minimum of 8 hours/week, 16 hours/pay period or 32 hours/month unless otherwise authorized by the CSM.
  5. CSM’s are responsible for CCA scheduling. CCA’s request for schedule changes must be made in writing to the CSM prior to posting the two week schedule in the ‘Kronos’ scheduling system.
  6. CCA’s are expected to fulfill work commitments on unit of assignment prior to working on other units. CCA’s will also be pulled according to unit policy.
  7. Call-ins and cancellations are in accordance with Nursing Service Line policy (enter ‘For Employees’ then ‘All Employees’ then ‘Employee Handbook’ @ http://hr.uams.edu.)
  8. CCA’s are expected to provide two weeks written notice for resignations. Failure to comply will be reflected on job references.
  9. CCA’s may reapply for a transfer after 6 months based on availability and required to notify Nurserecruitment@uams.edu prior to submitting an application. CCA positions are posted at http://jobs.uams.edu, enter ‘Clinical Care Assistant’ in the ‘search’ key.
  10. CCA’s are encouraged to seek out learning opportunities and communicate needs with staff. However, since the CCA is an employee not working as a ‘nursing student,’ CCAs cannot perform any skill outside the CCA role.
  11. CCA’s will be evaluated at 90 days and participate in an annual review with CSM.
  12. CCA’s are expected to provide written proof, i.e., current Transcript or Grade Report, Registration or Formal Nursing Program Letter to validate active student enrollment to CSM within 30 days after the close of each semester.
  13. CCA’s who desire to take the LPN Boards are required to notify the CSM prior to testing date. If an LPN license is obtained, CCA is required to meet with CSM to review/sign CCA/LPN Disclosure r/t CCA Job Description.
  14. CCA positions expire on the last day of the month of graduation. If CCA accepts a new graduate LPN or RN Resident position, CCA may continue to work as a CCA until transfer but must complete a minimum of 32 hours/month.
