Medical Surgical (A4/A7)

A4/A7 are a combined adult medical surgical units totaling 27 beds collectively. These unique units with smaller bed capacity and medically stable patients with predictable care needs support the opportunity to fully implement the Registered Nurse (RN) and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) RN/LPN team model of care. A shared charge RN will oversee shift to shift operations of both units, allowing for staffing flexibility tailored to meet the changing care needs of those populations.

The 14 bed Transitional Care Unit on A7 will provide care to patients who are deemed ready for acute care discharge from UAMS by their physician and have experienced a delay in discharge. The 13 bed Short Stay Unit on A4 will provide care to medical-surgical patients that meet specific criteria for stability, and are anticipated to discharge within 48 hours optimally.

Surgical Specialties/ENT/Ortho (F9)

The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care to assigned patients in ENT/Ortho Surgical Specialties (F9). This 30 bed medical/surgical unit specializes in providing care to adult post-operative patients. Head and Neck (ENT) procedures range from minor dental abscesses or thyroidectomies to highly complex surgeries including free flaps, muscle flaps, and tracheostomies. Nurses on F9 receive advanced training and specialize in providing care for ENT and Plastic Surgery patients with microvascular free flaps. Orthopaedic procedures include digit and limb re-implantation, internal and external fixation of fractures, and reconstructive surgery. A strong interdisciplinary team including physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, dieticians, rehabilitation specialists, case managers, and social workers utilize a multidisciplinary approach to care.

Medical/Surgical Unit (H9) specializing in Solid Organ Transplantation

H9 is a 30 bed medical/surgical adult inpatient unit serving general medical and surgical patients from adolescent age to geriatrics. The unit specializes in the care of the adult renal and liver failure patients, solid organ transplant patients, hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients, general surgery patients, colorectal and urology patients. H9 also cares for moderate to high acuity and progressive care patients. Through an interdisciplinary approach, quality care is delivered to our patients using a customized primary nursing modality to meet the physical, emotional, and educational needs of both the patient and their family.
