Float Division: ICU, Medical/Surgical, Maternal Infant and Oncology (FD)
Float Divisions are units with no physical boundaries, but still maintain the integrity of each specialized team. The ICU FD nurses work in all of the ICU areas, intermediate care, ED, and PACU. The Medical/Surgical FD nurses work on all of the medical and surgical areas. The Oncology FD nurses work on all of the inpatient oncology areas. The Maternal Infant FD nurses work in Ante partum and Post-partum, Labor and Delivery, and Neonatal Intensive Care units.
The Float Division nurses’ use nursing assessment and clinical skills to care for patients, families and staff on a daily basis. To prepare the Float Division nurses to work in specialty areas, a variety of courses are offered including Cardiac Dysthymia, Chemotherapy and Critical Care courses. Clinical orientation focuses on the nurse’s needs and strengths as they are partnered with a preceptor to maximize their orientation experience. All Float Division nurses receive a 25% differential for floating to these different areas. The Float pool team is a dynamic group of staff who meet the challenge and flexibility of a new assignment every day.
