Also called: Tobacco Cessation
Tobacco is the number one cause of preventable death in the United States. Currently, almost 23% of Arkansans smoke cigarettes and around 5,800 Arkansans die from a tobacco-related illness every year. At UAMS Health, we see the negative effects of tobacco use and make every effort to reach those needing help to quit both in our clinics and in the community. Your health is our number one priority, and quitting tobacco has proven to be the most important health change you can make.
You are much more likely to quit tobacco long-term when you work with a tobacco treatment specialist, according to research. Community members and patients who seek care at any UAMS Health location across Arkansas may receive help from a tobacco treatment specialist by self-referral or through a referral by their health care provider. Our tobacco treatment specialists provide virtual group classes and one-on-one consultations in the clinic setting and by phone.
