About Dr. Chacko
Clinical Biography
Joseph G. Chacko, M.D., has been the director of neuro-ophthalmology at the Harvey and Bernice Jones Eye Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences since 2005. He also performs no-shot, no-patch cataract surgery with over 20 years of experience.
Dr. Chacko is a professor for the Departments of Ophthalmology and Neurology in the UAMS College of Medicine. He also serves as Ophthalmology Clerkship Director for third-year medical students.
Dr. Chacko received his medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia (now Drexel University College of Medicine) in 1991. He completed a residency in ophthalmology at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta in 1995, and served a fellowship in neuro-ophthalmology at the prestigious Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami in 2004.
To promote better vision worldwide, Dr. Chacko has participated in annual surgical mission trips since 1997 to Ghana, West Africa and Guatemala, Central America. His research interests include diseases of the optic nerve and visual pathway including ischemic optic neuropathy, giant cell arteritis and divergence insufficiency.
Dr. Chacko has been board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology since 1996 and has been a diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners since 1992. He is a member of both the Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha honor societies. In 2016, Dr. Chacko was invested in the Sally McSpadden Boreham Chair in Ophthalmology.

Glad to have Dr. Chacko on my team. I have been looking for him for 8 years. He wasn't at [FACILITY] not did they refer him. He wasn't at [FACILITY]nor di d they refer him. But they did refer me to [NAME] at {FACILITY OUT OF STATE] Dr, [NAME] s nurse at [FACILITY] said Dr. [NAME] would see me but first I should try Dr. Chacko at UAMS. So I called Dr. [NAME] in [CITY] and asked if he would get me an appointment with Dr. Chacko. He did.

Billing was unclear. I received an estimate before my appointment which I paid. Then a few days after my appointment I received a separate bill. When I contacted the Billing department for clarification, I was told one bill was for the facility and one was for the hospital. My estimate only included one. So I had to pay doubled what I was originally told, which is difficult for someone without insurance coverage.
