Why UAMS? When looking for programs, I was interested in a place that had all aspects and exposure to the ICU's. My goal was to find somewhere that I could receive a well-rounded, hands-on training and serve patients that are from rural underserved backgrounds. Being from east TN, I have a passion for those from rural communities and the barriers they face resonates with me. When I met with this program at Midyear, they confirmed my goals, teaching styles, multiple ICU exposure, service of rural populations, and everything else I saw online with the positive interactions. UAMS has everything I wanted and still can't believe I matched my number one choice!
Why PGY2 in Critical Care? Every step of my background/training has drawn me toward caring for the sickest patients in fast-paced, team-based environments where pharmacists have a direct impact on outcomes. My experience working in cardiology during the pandemic and completing critical-care focused rotations has taught me to remain calm under pressure while applying clinical reasoning to complex patient care decisions. I enjoy solving problems/finding solutions to areas that are considered "gray," the challenge of optimizing therapy for critically ill patients, and value collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, whether through patient care or teaching opportunities. A critical care residency is the natural step in developing into the clinician I aspire to be and preparing for a career dedicated to improving outcomes for critically ill patients.
