About the Kidney Transplant Clinic at the UAMS Medical Center
Our unmatched experience in kidney transplants in Arkansas dates back to 1964 when the state’s first kidney transplant was performed at UAMS Health.
Today we offer enhanced and comprehensive care as part of our Multi-Organ Transplant Program. Our team of caring and compassionate staff members includes transplant surgeons, nephrologists (kidney doctors), specially-trained nurse coordinators and other specialists to care for patients before, during and after transplant surgery. Our team undertakes some of the most complex transplant cases, including many older patients.
Patient Education
Three days a week, we provide the best in patient education to help patients and their families in various stages of kidney failure to prepare for surgery and understand immunosuppressant medications (drugs to inhibit immune system activity) and post-transplant lifestyle issues.
Thanks to coordination and support from the Arkansas Regional Organ Recovery Agency and according to the most current statistics, UAMS Health’s waiting times for kidney transplantation are among the shortest in the nation.
