I’m Amy Phillips and I’m an obstetrician/gynecologist at UAMS.
So some women come to me and ask me, “If I carry my baby low, does that mean it’s a boy? Or if the heart rate’s high, does that mean it’s a girl?” These are really old medical myths, and they not hold true. If you want to know the sex of your baby, the best way to find out is through ultrasound. This is not always possible, but the majority of the time we can tell you what you’re having, if you want to know.
As far as the baby’s heart rate, we routinely check that at your prenatal care visits and make sure that it’s within the normal range. But it really does not have anything to do with the sex of the baby.
