Popliteal aneurysms may be repaired in one of two ways— open surgery or endovascular repair. In the open or traditional surgical repair, the surgeon grafts in a section of a healthy vein or an artificial tube then removes the damaged blood vessel. The endoscopic repair is when the surgeon inserts a tube with a mesh frame on the end that is expanded to strengthen the section of the blood vessel that has been weakened by the aneurysm.
