About Dr. Cox
Clinical Biography
Dr. Cox is a Fayetteville native and Fayetteville High School alumnus. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology at Auburn University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He completed medical school in Little Rock at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences where he received multiple scholarships and was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, a medical school honor society. Upon completion of his medical degree, Dr. Cox remained at UAMS to complete his internship and residency in orthopaedic surgery. During his residency he received several awards, including being named the UAMS Resident of the Year in 2004.
Dr. Cox and his family then traveled to San Francisco to complete fellowship specialty training in shoulder, elbow, and sports medicine. He trained with several world-renowned surgeons including those who first reported the ability to repair rotator cuff tears arthroscopically in the 1980s as well as the designers of the most common shoulder replacement system used in the world.
During his training and in his practice in Fayetteville, Dr. Cox has worked extensively with high school, collegiate, and professional athletes. He is a team physician for the Arkansas Razorbacks and is an orthopaedic consultant for the LPGA tour. Dr. Cox has operated on current members of the MLB, NFL, PGA, LPGA, USTA, Bassmasters/FLW, LPGA, and USA Track and Field.
Dr. Cox has a thirst for continued education, development, and leading cutting edge techniques in shoulder and elbow surgery. He holds 11 patents, and has developed products for shoulder and elbow bracing and surgical implants and published a book on little league baseball injuries. Additionally, he is a consultant, advisor, and instructor for multiple orthopaedic companies. He is board-certified fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy Association of North America, American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons, and the Arkansas Orthopaedic Society and others.
In January 2020, Dr. Cox’s practice for over a decade, The Shoulder Center of Arkansas, became UAMS Health | Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine. Dr. Cox now serves as the Section Chief for UAMS Orthopaedics in Northwest Arkansas. His goal is to transform health care delivery in Northwest Arkansas.
