About Dr. Dehmel

Clinical Biography

Dr. Stephan Dehmel is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Gastroenterology, Department of Internal Medicine at UAMS. He received his medical degree at Leipzig University, School of Medicine in Leipzig, Germany and completed internal medicine residency training and his gastroenterology fellowship at City Hospital Karlsruhe, Germany. He earned a doctoral degree (Dr. med.) in clinical and environmental immunology at his Alma Mater in Leipzig. He is an experienced internist and gastroenterologist after more than 20 years of work in different hospitals in Germany, Scotland and England. His focus of activity is luminal gastroenterology and endoscopy.
Dr. Dehmel is certified in both countries in internal medicine and gastroenterology. He is a diabetologist as well. His clinical interests include celiac disease, colitis and Crohn’s disease besides gastrointestinal endoscopy. Dr. Dehmel’s scientific interests involve gut microbiome research and preventive strategies in gastroenterology.
