Since my diagnosis, I have been treated not only with excellent medical care but also with kind and comforting care. I could not ask for it to be better.

[NAME] did not seem to want to help me over the phone. I almost canceled my visit completely because I felt like I bothered her when I told her I needed to request pto from my job before making an appointment. This was a big step for me to find a specialist and had been recommended to go to [OTHER FACILITY]. I asked to go to UAMS and my first interaction with them was not good to the point I almost cancelled everything. I don't understand the entire insurance-referral system so it all got very frustrating when it didn't need to be. [NAME] , the NP that did my bone marrow biopsy/aspiration was the worst experience I've had with my myeloma thus far in the last 1 1/2. He had to wait on me because I was in the restroom when he called me back, so I guess that made him mad. My husband and I were told during my Intake that my husband could come back with me as he has been with me during previous BMBs at my home facility but when he tried to come back with me, [NAME] was very rude and told me to give my stuff to my husband and for him to go sit down. He had zero patience, zero empathy. I had Ativan that I could take so he did vital signs, told me to take it, then had me wait back in the waiting room. He did not treat me like a patient or a person-just a medical record number. When he did my procedure, he was extremely mechanical and rough. Barely gave any time for the lidocaine to work. I told him I could feel what he was doing but he did not care. It became scary at that point. I had zero control over what was going on. I felt like a piece of meat. I've been a nurse for 31 years-I know how we are supposed to treat patients and this experience felt more like an assault than a procedure. I literally felt ashamed when he was done and I stood up to button my pants. If I didn't know any better, maybe it wouldn't have felt so terrible but after having 2 BMBs here in [CITY] and doing very well with those, this was a vastly different experience. I was only sore for a day with those. I have been very sore with this BMB. I am nervous about having to do it sedated next time but that is the option I will go with. I am so sorry to complain. I usually let things go because I know health care is stressful and overwhelming but I have wanted to come to UAMS since 1/2023. It's difficult because we live far away and I work full time. My PTO is difficult to obtain and very precious to use on yet more appointments. Everyone else we encountered were amazing. [NAME] the volunteer, the front desk people, all the others that did tests on me, [NAME] , Dr. Al-Hadidi, [NAME] -all amazing. I even got to meet [NAME] which was awesome. We are very thankful we got to come and will be back in 3 months.

Was given an envelope with phone numbers to regarding any questions and concerns, but numbers that you call you are put on hold without ever speaking with anyone and when someone actually picks up the phone they place it back on hold and then when someone does pick it up again they disconnect the call. This when on for about three tries for myself.
