About Dr. Ylanan
Clinical Biography
Dr. Ramon Ylanan joins UAMS Health Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine with over 11 years of sports medicine and SEC team physician experience. He served as the head primary care sports medicine physician for the University of Arkansas Razorbacks for over seven years and a team physician for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks. His sports medicine experience includes caring for six NCAA College World Series teams, including the 2010 and 2011 NCAA College World Series Champion Gamecocks as well as multiple NCAA Track and Cross-Country Championship Razorback teams. In addition to his SEC experience, Dr. Ylanan has provided cared for the Columbia and Alabama Ballet companies, multiple high school programs in the Birmingham, Ala., Columbia, S.C., and Fayetteville, Ark., areas, and has served as medical director for the HogEye Marathon.
Dr. Ylanan obtained his bachelorβs degree in biology from the University of Virginia and earned his medical degree from Ross University. After completing his family medicine residency at the University of Missouri and serving as a chief resident, he completed his sports medicine fellowship at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Ala., under the tutelage of Dr. James Andrews, Dr. Jeff Dugas, Dr. Lyle Cain, and Dr. Tracy Ray.
As a member of the UAMS faculty, Dr. Ylanan is an assistant professor with academic appointments in both the Department of Family Medicine and Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Ylanan also serves as the program director of UAMS’ Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship, a program he developed that boasts two SEC team physicians as alumni.
Dr. Ylanan provides comprehensive care for patients of all ages who have sports-related injuries β from the developing student athlete to the physically active to the advanced athlete or performer. He specializes in the non-operative management of musculoskeletal injuries and sport-related concussions, and offers a range of joint and soft tissue injection treatments, such as platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy.
He is married to Melissa, and they have two children, a son AJ and daughter Mia, along with an English Bulldog named Griffey.
