Academic Biography
Omar T. Atiq, M.D., is a professor of medicine and otolaryngology-head and neck in the UAMS College of Medicine. He is the founding director of the Arkansas Cancer Institute in Pine Bluff and is a fellow of the American College of Physicians.
Dr. Atiq received his medical degree from the Khyber Medical College, University of Peshawar, Pakistan, and did his residency and chief residency in internal medicine at the Edward Hines Jr. Veterans Administration Hospital and Foster G. McGaw Hospital of the Loyola University in Chicago.
Dr. Atiq did his fellowship training in medical oncology and hematology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York and is board-certified in medical oncology, hematology and internal medicine.
He is the chair of the board of governors of the American College of Physicians, former governor of the American College of Physicians Arkansas Chapter, and past president, speaker of the house and chairman of the board of the Arkansas Medical Society. Dr. Atiq also sits on the Arkansas State Medical Board. Ā He is commissioner emeritus of the Arkansas Tobacco Settlement Commission, where he served as inaugural vice chair, and he has also served on the Pulaski Academy board.

Uams is too cold. Although i know there are medical reasons to keep medical facilities cool UAMS is too cold. Infusion on the 4th floor has changed their policy on providing warm blankets in the waiting room. Also in the Cancer Facility there needs to be a designated room for patients to care fir themselves. I have a feeding tube and there is no place to feed myself or take my medicine unless you ask your Dr. if you can keep your examing room. You can use infusion but if you are stuck in the waiting room there is no place to go.

I had a reaction to a treatment. I My Charted a message and got a call the same day with an appt for the next day. I spoke with his nurse who asked me questions, and gave me information and then I spoke to Dr. Atiq who listened to me, explained the course of my treatment again and then prescribed meds to help me with my reaction. At all times were his nurse, [NAME] and Dr Atiq careful to listen, explain and reassure me of their concern and commitment to treating my cancer and helping me at all times. I can't relate how rare that care is nor my high regard for their knowledge and concern. Thank you UAMS for this team.
