About Dr. Poindexter
Clinical Biography
Lauren Poindexter, M.D., is a fellowship-trained rehabilitation and sports medicine physician specializing in the non-surgical management of spine and sports-related injuries and conditions. She sees patients at our UAMS Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine locations in Fayetteville and Lowell as well as at Arkansas Children’s Northwest in Springdale.
Dr. Poindexter is dedicated to helping her patients lead healthy, active lives. As a non-surgical sports medicine physician, Dr. Poindexter treats all types of sports-related injuries and conditions—from concussions to turf toe and everything in between. She also has extensive experience in treating spine-related issues, such as back pain and spine dysfunction.
Dr. Poindexter sees patients of all ages and performs non-surgical procedures such as spine and joint injections, PRP (platelet rich plasma) injections, and other non-operative procedures and treatments that help to maximize function and improve recovery. She works closely with physical therapists and other health-related disciplines to assist patients in their recovery process from injuries and help them reach their ultimate goal of returning to their everyday life and sports activities at their optimal potential.
Dr. Poindexter grew up outside Los Angeles, California where she participated in multiple sports, including soccer, gymnastics, track & field, basketball, cheerleading, springboard diving, and flag football. She is a 2005 graduate of the Master of Athletic Training degree program at the University of Arkansas and completed her Athletic Training Fellowship at The Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado.
A graduate of Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM) in Roanoke, Virginia, Dr. Poindexter completed her general surgery internship at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Medical Center in Phoenix and her residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). During her Sports Medicine Fellowship at New York University (NYU), she treated professional ballerinas and performing artists at NYU’s Harkness Center for Dance Injuries.
Dr. Poindexter is a team physician for the University of Arkansas Razorbacks®. She has also served as a consulting physician for the Seattle Seahawks and provided medical care for hockey competitors during FISU’s (International University Sports Federation) 2023 Winter World University Games in Lake Placid, New York. In addition, Dr. Poindexter serves the Arkansas community volunteering her time to provide medical coverage for many area sporting events, including the Little Rock marathon, USA Triathlon and UCI cycling races.
