About Dr. Kalkwarf
Clinical Biography
Kyle J. Kalkwarf, M.D., is a physician and Assistant Professor in the Division of Trauma and Critical Care Surgery at UAMS Medical Center.
Dr. Kalkwarf received his bachelor’s degree at the United States Military Academy; West Point, NY and his medical degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, Texas. He completed his General Surgery Residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and a fellowship in Trauma and Surgical Critical Care at The University of Texas Health Science Center Memorial Hermann Hospital, Houston, Texas.
Upon completion of his fellowship training, Dr. Kalkwarf worked as a Clinical Specialist of Critical Care & Respiratory Care at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He was also on the teaching staff of Memorial Hermann Hospital and Staff Physician at the University of Texas Medical School, both in Houston.
Dr. Kalkwarf joined UAMS after serving as an Attending General Surgeon and Surgical Intensivist for the Central Arkansas Veterans’ Health System, Little Rock.
Dr. Kalkwarf is board certified in general surgery and surgical critical care by the American Board of Surgery. He is also certified in Acute Surgery by the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST). He has received numerous honors and awards and is currently Instructor for Advanced Surgical Skills for Exposure in Trauma (ASSET), Basic Endovascular Skills for Trauma (BEST- REBOA) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) (25+ courses 2018)
He joined the Acute Care Surgery Specialty team to care for patients who suffer from trauma, surgical emergencies and critical illness. Dr. Kalkwarf’s elective clinical practice encompasses laparoscopic and open surgery for abdominal hernias, gallbladder disease and other general surgery conditions.
