About Dr. Cannon
Clinical Biography
Jamie A. Cannon, M.D., FASC, FASCRS, received her medical degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine, Tucson, AZ. She completed a general surgery residency at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, NC and a fellowship in Colorectal Surgery from Georgia Colon and Rectal Surgical Associates, Atlanta, GA. Dr. Cannon was previously at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she was a Professor of Surgery and Program Director for the colorectal fellowship. She previously served as Director of the Colorectal Cancer Service Line and Division Director of Gastrointestinal Surgery. Dr. Cannon’s primary clinical interests are colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and diverticular disease. She is a renowned robotic surgeon and teaches robotic colorectal surgery to other surgeons in the US and around the world.

I shared my concerns about potential complications involving my Primary Adrenal Insufficiency and getting a colonscopy. Dr. Cannon listened to my concerns, offered options that would ensure my safety, and reflected back what she was hearing from me. I left feeling assured that I was heard and my questions were answered. I am scheduling a colonoscopy today!

Dr. Cannon and the resident working with her both made me feel incredibly comfortable. During her explanation of the risks and benefits of an elective procedure she was clear, concise, and very objective. I appreciate that the language she used didn't affect my decision about the procedure.
