I was extremely impressed with my visit yesterday. Courtney Owen was incredibly thorough and didn't make me feel rushed. She took the time to listen to all my concerns and explained my treatment options in plain language that actually made sense. It's rare to find a provider who combines such high technical competence with a genuine, compassionate bedside manner.

Provider told me she would give me a list of when to stop medications before surgery. She did not ask or talk about some of the supplements I take (on the advice of other doctors) and the reasons I take them but the final list I was given dictated stopping supplements a week before surgery. I believe stopping these particular things will be detrimental to my overall health and will increase my discomfort before the surgery. It seems arbitrary and unnecessary. I read in the notes afterward "denies falling in last 6 months" but I had said yes, I had fallen recently, after tripping over a dog. I wondered how much I was really being listened to. I wondered if there was just some standard opinion that all supplements were unnecessary and of telling people to stop everything one week or two weeks before surgery because they were not really needed anyway.
