Dr. Hohertz's Academic Background
Academic Biography
Reared in a small, limited-resource farming community in central Texas, he attended college at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, working multiple jobs to make his way. There, he graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. From there, he headed south to Texas A&M University Health Science Center, where he completed his medical degree.
Dr. Hohertz earned his residency training in Emergency Medicine at UAMS. After completing residency in 2008, he returned to the great state of Texas where he worked in a high acuity cardiac/stroke center in Fort Worth while teaching students and residents from various disciplines. He returned to UAMS in full capacity as an assistant professor, drawn back by his mentors and friends, and with a desire to teach in the emergency medicine residency program he so loved.
Previously serving as core faculty for our residency program, Dr. Hohertz now serves as Assistant Program Director. His extensive contributions include his standing role as Chair of the Clinical Competency Committee, Director of the program’s oral boards preparation, and Director of the Mortality and Morbidity didactic series. He also enjoys his faculty preceptor role in the Practice of Medicine II for our medical students. In 2020 he was honored to receive the Robert A. Fisher Excellence in Teaching award.
Outside of UAMS, Dr. Hohertz has been recognized as a Fellow of both ACEP and AAEM and is a member of CORD. He is active in the American College of Emergency Physicians as Past President of the Arkansas Chapter, where he serves on the Board of Directors and as an Arkansas Councilor to National ACEP.
