About Alexis H. Gershon

Clinical Biography

Alex Gershon is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) and Fayetteville native. She received her Bachelor of Social Work degree with a minor in political science from the University of Arkansas, and a Master of Social Work degree with a concentration in Advanced Direct Practice from UA Little Rock. Alex has experience working in behavioral health, addiction treatment, public policy, and oncology in inpatient, outpatient, residential, and non-profit settings.

As a Behavioral Health Consultant, Alex works with the Primary Care team to support patient care by providing brief target interventions to patients with depression, anxiety, insomnia, stress, or other behavioral health-related issues. A Behavioral Health Consultant also works with the team to support patients who struggle with health behaviors, offering therapeutic support to enhance engagement in medical care. In addition to patient care, the Behavioral Health Consultant also works with Family Medicine Residents, medical school students, and other professional students to provide education on screening and addressing patient behavioral health needs.

In addition to her role as a Behavioral Health Consultant at UAMS, Alex currently serves as a Field Instructor and Adjunct Professor for the University of Arkansas School of Social Work. She was initially drawn to become a social worker because it is a values-based profession. Alex particularly enjoys working with women and young adults as well as within macro social work through community engagement, program development, and advocacy.
