Living Donor
One of the areas that we will address is whether you have anyone interested in being a kidney donor. A donor can be a relative, a friend, or in some cases – a stranger. We have a living donor coordinator, Larissa Ivory, RN, and she will work with anyone who wishes to be evaluated as a donor. A living kidney donor allows you to have a transplant much sooner. Also, studies have shown that the survival time is longer with a living donor.
Potential donors can learn about donation and determine if they are eligible for kidney donation by filling out the living donor pre-screening tool.

Deceased Donor
A deceased donor is a donor who has been declared brain dead – or has a cardiac death — and whose family has agreed to organ donation. This is known as a “deceased donor transplant” and is the kind of kidney you will receive if you are on the waiting list.
Alternative Treatment Options
A kidney transplant is one option to manage your kidney failure. Other options are to continue with dialysis or, if you have not yet started dialysis, medical management.
