Save Time When Your Baby Arrives
Doing these things will help the arrival of your child feel seamless.
Contact your Insurance Company
Many insurance companies require notification before you go to to the hospital. Call your insurance company to let them know your due date, and follow any notification requirements they have. Doing this early helps you to take care of any financial matters before your big day.
Map Your Route
The packet that Admissions sends you will include maps of the hospital and the nearest freeways. Labor and Delivery is located on the 5th floor of the hospital.

Where to go when you arrive
Parking Information:
The patient can be dropped off at the hospital entrance (near the fountain) and can be escorted by a wheelchair to Labor and Delivery (L&D). The car can then be parked by following the signs to Parking 1. Parking is available on levels L2, L3, and L4. There are parking deck elevators for levels L2 and L3 that access the main lobby of the hospital. Level 4 directly accesses the main hospital lobby.
If no escort/wheelchair is needed, the patient can park in parking deck 1 and proceed to the “B” Elevator and go to the 5th floor. Patients will need to check in with the Neonatal Information Desk.
Labor and Delivery/Triage Information:
Labor and Delivery/Triage is accessed from the main hospital lobby by utilizing the “B” elevators. Go to the 5th floor and turn left to find the Neonatal Information Desk. You MUST check in there and then they will escort you to the L&D or Triage area.
Team Approach
Regardless of what type of delivery you have at UAMS, a “team approach” will be used to deliver you the best care. This means that you will be cared for by the women’s services team including an attending obstetrician, resident physicians, APRN and nurse midwife. The resident physicians are overseen by an attending physician. Your physician may or may not be present at the delivery. UAMS is dedicated to excellent patient care and this is one way we are able to provide you with it.
What’s good about a team approach?
- You have more than one person assessing your situation and providing the best care for you.
- You do not have to wait for your physician to come in for delivery, because there are always 3 to 4 obstetricians in the hospital at all times.
- You do not have to wait for an OR team to be called in should you need a cesarean section. In case of emergency, time is of the essence and could mean a difference in outcomes for both you and your baby.
- There are anesthesiologists on the labor and delivery floor at all times ready to insert an epidural or other appropriate means of anesthesia for you.
- You do not have to find a pediatrician to come to the hospital and care for you baby. In-house pediatricians and neonatologists are ready 24/7 to care for your newborn in the case of any emergency situation.
What is different about a team approach?
You may not know the physician that delivers or cares for your baby. Teams change shifts every 12 to 24 hours to provide you with the best care. While this may be frustrating at times, it allows for the most alert physicians to care for you and your baby.
