Endometriosis is a condition that affects approximately 2-10% of women in the U.S. of childbearing age. This condition occurs when tissue that resembles the lining of a woman’s uterus builds up on organs outside of the uterus. This tissue responds to the hormonal changes that occur during her menstrual cycle and may cause swelling, bleeding, and scarring of the normal tissue surrounding the endometrial implants.
