Compled regional pain syndrome is a neuroinflamatory disease of peripheral nerves that is rare, painful and very poorly understood. CRPS can be explained this way:
- Complex – Associated with many medical issues. Affects a number of biological systems in the body (i.e., nervous, vascular, muscular, skeletal).
- Regional – At onset, localized in a particular region of the body (i.e. left arm, right leg).
- Pain – Severe debilitating pain is often the primary symptom.
- Syndrome – A collection of symptoms that occur together.
Symptoms
If you have CRPS in your arms or legs, some of the symptoms can include the following:

- Abnormal swelling, hair growth, color change, or nail changes
- Limited range of motion of weakness
