Alex Doucet has been around horses most of her life, and she was well trained in how to handle them safely. In spite of this experience, a horse kicked her in the side during a freak accident on March 6, rupturing her spleen. She began to bleed internally and was rushed to UAMS. When she arrived at the hospital, she was quickly evaluated and within 15 minutes was in the operating room with Trauma Surgeon Dr. Nolan Bruce, who removed her spleen. Thanks to the trauma team’s swift action, she recovered quickly and was back working with her beloved horses and equestrian students in just a few short weeks.
“The incredible trauma team at UAMS saved my life. I will never be able to thank them enough for their care and compassion.” – Alexandra Doucet, Little Rock
