[Dr. Jeff Stambough, Hip and Knee Surgeon, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery]
My goals for my patients whom I treat are threefold. One, to improve their pain, if that’s something that they’re experiencing. Number two is to help their function. And then the function can be higher-level function or just even enjoying their grandchildren and being able to kneel down. And then lastly, is to improve the durability and lifespan of their hip or knee.
The most rewarding aspect about my job as a hip and knee surgeon at UAMS is seeing patients come in at their two- and six-week visit having drastically improved function and outlook than they had before surgery. I really enjoy treating the complex cases — people who’ve been living a long time with their ailment — and seeing that ability to track them where they were and where they’re at. And seeing those sweeping improvements is something that brings me a lot of joy.
