I’m Monique Spillman and I’m a gynecologic oncologist and the Chief of Gynecologic Oncology at the Cancer Institute. In my clinical practice, I typically see women who have been recently diagnosed with a cancer of the reproductive tract, so most often here in Arkansas we see women with uterine cancer or endometrial cancer and we also see women with ovarian and cervical cancer. So when a patient first comes into our clinic we do a thorough assessment of both the history physical exam as well as a review of any outside imaging or pathology that’s already been done and then we make a comprehensive plan that decides whether or not surgery or chemotherapy or other modalities is the right plan of care for each individual patient. One of the benefits of coming to UAMS for your gynecologic cancer care is that we build a team around you so we have nurse practitioners that help us manage chemotherapy side effects and symptoms. We have a whole team that helps us get you connected with a clinical trial so you have access to the most cutting-edge research, as well as the most cutting-edge treatments that are available at this time.
